For the past two years, PCA staff have volunteered with the ACE Mentor Program of Greater Boston, which provides under-privileged high school students with an introduction to the industries of Architecture, Construction, and Engineering.

This year, PCA’s team of Phil Tomlinson, Steven Le, Brian Balise, Jake Schmidt, Janine Byrne and Scott Wyatt worked with 80 students over five-months on hypothetical design and construction projects at three sites in order for them to learn about each discipline and take part in activities such as the Architecture Boston Expo exhibition hall scavenger hunt, site visits, Revit training and trade day. In addition to providing this experience to high school students who would not typically have this opportunity, ACE also offers college scholarships to support the program graduates in their continued advancement in the ACE fields.

On March 11, the ACE Mentor Program hosted a student showcase event at Wentworth Institute of Technology where the scholarship winners were announced and honored. This year, three of the ACE students PCA worked with earned scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $11,000!! Although we were not able to attend the award ceremony this year – the event was limited to discipline heads and seniors to protect students from the virus –  we were excited for them in this especially hard time for graduating classes.
