Hattie Kelton Apartments’ addition of 47 new apartments and a community space brings additional vitality to Boston’s Jamaica Hill neighborhood. As a 100% affordable housing building, most apartments are designed for families earning up to 60% of area median income with a portion of units set aside for formerly homeless and people with mental disabilities.
To fit within the neighborhood context, we added porches, planted terraces, multiple entries and a rhythm of cladding materials that complement the existing nearby architecture of triple-decker houses, historic brick buildings and single-family homes.
The design received overwhelming support from community leaders and public officials throughout its the Article 80 Large Project Review.
